Solid wall insulation
The photo above shows aerogel blankets fixed to the existing wall finish with an expanded steel mesh using thermally decoupled expansion fasteners (required to prevent thermal bridging).
When insulating the inside of a wall it's important to choose an appropriate vapour permeable material to avoid creating a vapour barrier which could lead to build up of moisture and associated decay within the wall. Aerogel blanket insulation is vapour permeable and allows the wall to breathe.
Aerogel insulation is thin which allows a room to be insulated without the need to dramatically change existing fittings such as skirting boards, window reveals, door liners, architrave etc. as the above photo demonstrates.
The Benefits Of Using Aerogel Blankets
Silica aerogels are derived from sand and the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly making this material an important step forward in environmental terms - lessening our reliance on materials derived from petrochemicals which are inherently toxic to the environment.
Aerogel blankets are quite simply the most thermally efficient insulators in the world. Therefore a high level of insulation is obtained from a small thickness of material.
